"Barcode Gene" identified in plants -- animals next?

It is official: in the name of "clean energy, pollution control and medicine," the White House is prepared to let scientists, spearheaded by the J. Craig Venter Institute, "manipulate DNA of organisms to forge new life forms," according to a recent AFP article. The Orwellian language used by Barack Obama's Presidential Commission For The Study of Bioethical Issues is a study in wordiness, misdirection, and obfuscation that is typical when trying to cover up the true intent.  For example, on one hand the Commission acknowledges that the J. Craig Venter Institute has found the ability to forge new life forms, but also states that Venter's team didn't create life, since the work primarily involved altering an already existing life form. Since we won't get straight truth from the mainstream media, science, or the government, it is better advised to look at who Craig Venter is, and what public statements have been issued about this agenda that literally could transform the human race from a naturally evolving species into a manipulated computer code. As far back as 2003, a BBC article titled Warning on Gene 'ID Cards' cited Craig Venter as a leading scientist in gene mapping who, at the time, was offering the "very rich" a chance to buy their map for $710,000.  This sets up, in effect, a division of gene class where elites would have access to potentially life-saving information, while the underclass could be discriminated against by insurance companies and employers.  The short article concludes with an even more critical warning by Dr. Helen Wallace of GeneWatch that, "What we could end up with is a massive DNA database by the back door."  And this was almost 8 years ago. In the intervening time, the possible misuse of such a database became clear in 2006 when collaboration between the  J. Craig Venter Institute and Google resulted in a ZDNet article titled Google Accused of Bio-Piracy.  Plans were revealed to "create a searchable online database of all the genes on the planet."  The source of this story came from a Pulitzer Prize winner, David Vise, but to this day it seems that neither the J. Craig Venter Institute, nor Google have acknowledged any ongoing partnership. The Institute announced in May of this year that it finally had created the first self-replicating, synthetic bacterial cell, dubbed Synthia by the media.  Most people probably concluded that this was a rather innocuous, self-promoting announcement designed to receive funding.  However, if one looks deeper into this press release, one should notice the words "synthetic genome."  This is an admission that goes beyond simply altering an existing life form, as the Institute asserts, but illustrates the ability to replicate the entirety of an organism's hereditary information. The technical breakdown of this initiative is exceedingly important, but is better left to experts in the field.  Regardless, the assertions of the J. Craig Venter Institute have found the "software of life" are being taken seriously by the White House at a time when revelations about how computing, medicine, technology, and the police state are converging on an almost daily basis.  In just the past month, the following stories made headlines: Lawsuits have been filed in Austin, TX by parents who have discovered that DNA had been secretly taken from babies and sold to pharmaceutical companies and/or the Armed Forces for genetic research as far back as 2002. Unions have started to implement biometric ID "threat assessment" cards at the behest of Homeland Security in a "cooperative effort between public and private authorities." Iris scan technology is being used by NYC law enforcement to create a biometric database in homage to Minority Report.  GM Mosquitoes have been released in the Cayman Islands to combat Dengue fever, while noted depopulation advocate, Bill Gates, has been funding the initiative. Connections have been made between the above-mentioned Dengue fever mosquito release to the history of CIA bioweapons research, as well as various NGOs and Globalist think tanks that will apply the funding of The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation toward "flying vaccines" as a solution to the "problem" of viruses.  It is worth adding that part of the stated purpose of the first artificial cell, Synthia, is "faster vaccine production." The flowery language that comes from elite circles about Utopian equality ring empty in the face of their documented history of discriminatory programs and depopulation initiatives.  Giving over our blood, and now our life force, to elites who long ago distanced themselves from the concerns of the average man and woman does not bode well for the health of humanity. Exposure to fluoride may lower children's intelligence says a study pre-published in Environmental Health Perspectives, a publication of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (online December 17, 2010).

Fluoride is added to 70% of U.S. public drinking water supplies.

ccording to Paul Connett, Ph.D., director of the Fluoride Action Network, "This is the 24th study that has found this association, but this study is stronger than the rest because the authors have controlled for key confounding variables and in addition to correlating lowered IQ with levels of fluoride in the water, the authors found a correlation between lowered IQ and fluoride levels in children's blood. This brings us closer to a cause and effect relationship between fluoride exposure and brain damage in children." "What is also striking is that the levels of the fluoride in the community where the lowered IQs were recorded were lower than the EPA's so-called 'safe' drinking water standard for fluoride of 4 ppm and far too close for comfort to the levels used in artificial fluoridation programs (0.7 – 1.2 ppm)," says Connett. In this study, 512 children aged 8-13 years in two Chinese villages were studied and tested – Wamaio with an average of 2.47 mg/L water fluoride (range 0.57-4.50 mg/L) and Xinhuai averaging 0.36 mg/L (range 0.18-0.76 mg/L). The authors eliminated both lead exposure and iodine deficiency as possible causes for the lowered IQs. They also excluded any children who had a history of brain disease or head injury and none drank brick tea, known to contain high fluoride levels. Neither village is exposed to fluoride pollution from burning coal or other industrial sources. About 28% of the children in the low-fluoride area scored as bright, normal or higher intelligence compared to only 8% in the "high" fluoride area of Wamaio. In the high-fluoride city, 15% had scores indicating mental retardation and only 6% in the low-fluoride city.  The study authors write: "In this study we found a significant dose-response relation between fluoride level in serum and children's IQ." In addition to this study, and the 23 other IQ studies, there have been over 100 animal studies linking fluoride to brain damage (all the IQ and animal brain studies are listed in Appendix 1 in The Case Against Fluoride available online at http://fluoridealert.org/caseagainstfluoride.appendices.html). One of the earliest animal studies of fluoride's impact on the brain was published in the U.S. This study by Mullenix et. al (1995) led to the firing of the lead author by the Forsyth Dental Center. "This sent a clear message to other researchers in the U.S. that it was not good for their careers to look into the health effects of fluoride – particularly on the brain," says Connett. Connett adds, "The result is that while the issue of fluoride's impact on IQ is being aggressively pursued around the world, practically no work has been done in the U.S. or other fluoridating countries to repeat their findings. Sadly, health agencies in fluoridated countries seem to be more intent on protecting the fluoridation program than protecting children's brains." When the National Research Council of the National Academies reviewed this topic in their 507-page report "Fluoride in Drinking Water: A Review of EPA's Standards" published in 2006, only 5 of the 24 IQ studies were available in English. Even so the panel found the link between fluoride exposure and lowered IQ both consistent and "plausible."   According to Tara Blank, Ph.D., the Science and Health Officer for the Fluoride Action Network, "This should be the study that finally ends water fluoridation. Millions of American children are being exposed unnecessarily to this neurotoxin on a daily basis. Who in their right minds would risk lowering their child's intelligence in order to reduce a small amount of tooth decay, for which the evidence is very weak." NABLUS, (PIC)-- Israeli authorities have given the people of the east Nablus village of Tana 24 hours to evacuate their homes before demolishing them, and threatened to confiscate their livestock when the deadline falls, sources in Nablus said. Tana is home to more than 35 Palestinian families. They have decided to resist decisions to demolish their homes and eject them from them, calling on officials to stand by them in the face of the arbitrary ruling. The village's population has been residing there since the 1940's. They had prior to that dwelled in caves in the rock village before they began building to house themselves and their livestock, their key source of livelihood. The village sits seven kilometers away from Beit Fourik. Villagers have fallen victim to Jewish settlers from time to time. Since developing the village, residents have been ordered to stop building and under threat of demolitions. The structures there have been taken down on several occasions, the last of which was about ten days ago, when 12 homes, a school, and several were wiped out. The Beit Fourik municipality leveled the entire village last month for allegedly being erected on the West Bank's Area C, a region placed under Israeli security control after the Oslo Accords. The village has a land area of about 250 acres and is located near the Jewish settlement of Mahura, which was founded in 1969. Victims of clerical sex abuse have reacted furiously to Pope Benedict's claim yesterday that paedophilia wasn't considered an “absolute evil” as recently as the 1970s. In his traditional Christmas address yesterday to cardinals and officials working in Rome, Pope Benedict XVI also claimed that child pornography was increasingly considered “normal” by society. “In the 1970s, paedophilia was theorised as something fully in conformity with man and even with children,” the Pope said. “It was maintained — even within the realm of Catholic theology — that there is no such thing as evil in itself or good in itself. There is only a ‘better than' and a ‘worse than'. Nothing is good or bad in itself.” The Pope said abuse revelations in 2010 reached “an unimaginable dimension” which brought “humiliation” on the Church. Asking how abuse exploded within the Church, the Pontiff called on senior clerics “to repair as much as possible the injustices that occurred” and to help victims heal through a better presentation of the Christian message. “We cannot remain silent about the context of these times in which these events have come to light,” he said, citing the growth of child pornography “that seems in some way to be considered more and more normal by society” he said. But outraged Dublin victim Andrew Madden last night insisted that child abuse was not considered normal in the company he kept. Mr Madden accused the Pope of not knowing that child pornography was the viewing of images of children being sexually abused, and should be named as such. He said: “That is not normal. I don't know what company the Pope has been keeping for the past 50 years.” Pope Benedict also said sex tourism in the Third World was “threatening an entire generation”. Back on track.

Sorry for the lack of... well everything really..., just recovering from major computer issues that required large sums of cash to fix. something I am distinctly lacking in at the moment. I have got a working computer again, its a real dinosaur though and doesn't have any of my resources on its tiny hard drive, so bear with me as progress will be slow until I can afford to fix its (much) speedier replacement. At present I am trying to catch up on the happenings of the last months after nearly going cold turkey from internet access and having to rely on the Main Stream Media for my news (ugh), but at least it gets active again without the need to borrow. :-)

ok it has been some time since my last post, not through choice I might add. I have been having the worst luck with electronics equipment of all varieties going haywire, breaking or just plain going.



To date the list stands at:



1x 500GB Harddrive (virus)

1x Laptop screen (a damn expensive one at that thanks HP)

1x Desktop PC (whats up with that is anyones guess)

1x Mobile phone (???)

1x Digital Camera (just plain old fashioned missing)

1x DVD drive (desktop again)

1x Router (no wireless)



It's been an expensive few weeks and I'm starting to feel like a walking EMP attack.



But seriously, I intend to get this  thing up and running again soon, I should have a working, net ready computer within the next couple of weeks and will have the time needed to scour the web for articles etc (borrowing a one for tonight, thanks lil' bro :-) , people can be really mean over the lend of a computer but then with a track record like that I can't really blame them I suppose.) until then I bid you farewell.

It was another of those great TV moments. Embedded reports filming as the “last” brigade of American troops in Iraq cross the border into Kuwait bringing over seven years of unhappy conflict to its final, conclusive end. America was, at last, at peace. But like so many other great TV moments, this one was a scripted fantasy, a fake exit done purely for political gain by an increasingly unpopular president trying to look like he is keeping at least one campaign promise. It was perhaps a different sort of scripted, mythical end to the Iraq War than the last one, the May 1, 2003 “Mission Accomplished” speech of President Bush, but it was no more real, as over 50,000 US troops remain on the ground in Iraq tonight. The “end of the war” may bring some measure of relief to the American people, but it must be something of a sombre moment for those 50,000 troops, as they continue to go into combat operations with the bulk of the American public believing, because their president told them so, that the war is over and combat operations have ended. Officials have been pretty straightforward about what really happened, not that it has been picked up by the media, which has preferred the more pleasant narrative of a decisive military victory. Instead, the US simply “redefined” the vast majority of its combat troops as “transitional troops,” then removed a brigade that they didn’t relabel, so they could claim that was the “last one.” Even this comes with the assumption that the State Department, and a new army of contractors, will take over for years after the military operations end, assuming they ever do. And it worked, at least for now. All is right with the world and the war is over, at least so far as anyone could tell from the TV news shows. But as violence continues to rise across Iraq, and July saw the worst violence in over two years, it will likely be difficult for the Obama Administration to keep this war a secret for much longer. Colombia declares US base share deal unconstitutional

It will likely take the US military industrial complex quite sometime to figure out just what constitutional means, so Columbia may have quite some time before the US tries using force in the form of a false flag or H.A.A.R.P. to cause some sort of "natural" disaster to invade just as it appears is the case with Pakistan and certainly was with Haiti.



One thing is for sure the US and those that steer it, will not be happy with having their sphere of influence decreased in an area where they have always historically been strong. Should be a situation to keep an eye on.

A Colombian court has declared as unconstitutional a deal which gives US troops access to its military bases. The constitutional court ruled the 2009 accord should be redrafted as an international treaty and sent to Colombia's Congress for approval. The deal allows the US to use seven bases to help with operations against drug trafficking and terrorism. But it was criticised by other Latin American countries over a concern about the rise in US influence in the region.

The US, which has supplied Colombia with more than $7bn (£4.5bn) in aid since 2000, was forced to look for a new centre for regional operations after Ecuador refused to renew the lease on its military base at Manta. The deal agreed by former President Alvaro Uribe in October 2009 gave the US access to the bases for 10 years and would see a maximum of 800 US military personnel and 600 civilian defence contractors based in Colombia. They would operate the US aircraft that maintain 24-hour monitoring of the region, intercepting communications and coordinating with spy satellites to protect US interests. But the court's chief justice Mauricio Gonzalez said the deal was "an arrangement which requires the State to take on new obligations as well as an extension of previous ones". He said that as such, it should be "handled as an international treaty, that is, subject to congressional approval". The court did not rule on the legitimacy of the agreement itself and the ruling does not mean the US has to leave the country altogether. The BBC's Jeremy McDermott in Bogota says the government of the new President Juan Manuel Santos has a large majority in Congress and he will be confident of getting a redrafted version of the agreement approved. The ruling will, however, please many of Colombia's neighbours, says our correspondent, particularly President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela, who had repeatedly accused the US of planning to use the bases to invade his country and seize its oil reserves.

KABUL, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- Afghan president Hamid karzai in an order issued Tuesday gave four months deadline to all local and foreign private security firms to cease operation in the war- battered country. Copy of the order sent to media said that decision has been taken in line with the constitution to fight corruption, ensure security for the citizens and check misusing weapons and military uniforms by private security firms. "The order is effective forthwith with immediate effect from the date of issuance," it emphasized. Afghan president in his order also said that Interior Ministry is responsible to provide security for the diplomatic missions and international agencies based in Kabul and other cities, while Defense Ministry and National Security Directorate would ensure security for logistic convoys of international troops on their way from Kabul to provinces and onward to districts. Dozens of Afghan and foreign security companies with over 30, 000 personnel have been operating in Afghanistan, providing security to international agencies based in Kabul and escort logistic convoys of NATO-led troops in the country.

Tel Aviv - A female Israeli soldier at the centre of a debate over Facebook photographs showing her with blindfolded and detained Palestinians said Tuesday she does not understand what she did wrong. 'There's no violence or intention to humiliate anyone in the pictures. I just had my picture taken with them in the background,' she told Israel Army Radio. She said she had not intended to make a political or any other kind of statement, but posted the pictures on the popular social networking site 'out of excitement, to remember the experience.' 'It was about remembering my experiences in the army and that's it,' she said. The soldier, recently discharged from her compulsory service, posted the photographs, apparently taken in 2008, in a Facebook album she called 'Army...best time of my life :).' They showed her striking various poses near Palestinian detainees. Attempts to access the photographs via Facebook on Tuesday proved unsuccessful. An Israeli military spokesman described as 'shameful' her decision to post the photographs, but the Jerusalem Post daily reported that some visitors to her Facebook page found the pictures amusing, with one even saying she looked 'super sexy.' The Palestinian Authority said the photographs show 'the mentality of the occupier, to be proud of humiliating Palestinians.' A leading UN weapons inspector last night added his voice to the growing clamour for a full inquest into the death of Dr David Kelly.

Dr Richard Spertzel claimed Dr Kelly was on a 'hitlist' in the final years of his life.

'High target': There are fresh calls for an inquest into Dr David Kelly's death

The former head of the UN Biological Section, who worked closely with Dr Kelly in Iraq in the 1990s, has written to Attorney General Dominic Grieve about the 'mysterious circumstances' surrounding the death.

The weapons inspector's body was found after he was unmasked as the source of a damaging BBC news report questioning the grounds for the Iraq war.

Officially, he took his own life.

Yesterday Dr Spertzel told the Mail that the British authorities were 'intentionally ignoring' the issue.

He believes that there is something 'fishy' and insisted that a coroner should examine the death as soon as possible.

His demands come 24 hours after nine of Britain's leading medical experts wrote an open letter to minsters demanding a full inquest.

Dr Spertzel said: 'I know that David, as well as myself and a couple of others, were on an Iraqi hitlist. In late 1997, we were told by the Russian embassy in Baghdad. I had no idea what it meant but apparently David and I were high on the priority list.'

He said he and Dr Kelly were told that they were 'numbers three and four' on the list during an inspection trip in Iraq.

'When it first happened I felt right away that David just being associated with the work he'd been doing for the UK government would have made him a high target,' Dr Spertzel said.

The Iraqi intelligence service did not take kindly to such action so my first reaction [to Dr Kelly's death] was "we'd better watch our backs".' No inquest has ever been held into Dr Kelly's death. Instead, a public inquiry chaired by Lord Hutton was set up to investigate the circumstances surrounding it.

The inquiry ruled that the 59-year-old committed suicide in woodland near his Oxfordshire home in July 2003 by cutting the ulnar artery in his wrist with a blunt pruning knife.

Dr Spertzel, who is based in Washington where he continues to write and lecture on biological weapons, said: 'My concern about David Kelly's death is exactly what the doctors are saying now - that is, it's virtually impossible to commit suicide by slashing your wrist in that way.

'It just doesn't make sense. It seems to me that they [the British authorities] are intentionally ignoring all this. Something's fishy.'

Yesterday some of the doctors who wrote to ministers demanded an end to the shroud of secrecy over the death.

They want the official post-mortem results to be made public and for witnesses to give evidence under oath.

Concern over the cause of death has been mounting after it emerged in January that all medical and scientific records, including the post-mortem report and photographs of the body, were secretly classified for 70 years in 2004.

Sir Barry Jackson, past president of the British Academy of Forensic Science and one of the doctors who wrote to ministers, said yesterday: 'In my experience from 30 years as a practising surgeon I find it difficult to agree with the cause of death as listed on his death certificate.'

Another, Dr Elizabeth Driver, a solicitor and Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists, added: 'As a pathologist I cannot understand how Dr Kelly could have died from blood loss of a severed ulnar artery. It makes no medical sense. Little is known about the medical facts because the post-mortem has been kept secret.

'There are obvious questions which were not addressed in the inquiry.'

Doubts over the official version of his death have previously been raised by Mai Pederson, a U.S. Air Force linguist who served in Iraq with Dr Kelly's weapons inspection team.

She said he had a painful elbow injury which meant his hand was too weak to cut a steak.

He would have to have been a 'contortionist' to have killed himself in the way the Hutton Inquiry claimed, she said.

A group of prominent legal and medical experts today called for a full inquest into the death of the government scientist David Kelly in 2003.

An inquest was suspended by Lord Falconer, then lord chancellor, before the Hutton inquiry into the circumstances of the scientist's death. It was not resumed after Hutton's report in 2004 concluded that Kelly killed himself by cutting an artery in his wrist.

Nine experts including Michael Powers, a QC and former coroner, and Julian Blon, a professor of intensive care medicine, said in a letter to the Times that the official cause of death – haemorrhage from the severed artery – was "extremely unlikely".

"Insufficient blood would have been lost to threaten life," they said. "Absent a quantitative assessment of the blood lost and of the blood remaining in the great vessels, the conclusion that death occurred as a consequence of haemorrhage is unsafe."

Kelly's body was found in woods close to his Oxfordshire home in 2003, shortly after it was revealed that he was the source of a BBC report casting doubt on the government's claim that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction which could be fired within 45 minutes.

Lord Hutton concluded that "the principal cause of death was bleeding from incised wounds to his left wrist which Dr Kelly had inflicted on himself with the knife found beside his body".

In January, five doctors who made an application to the Oxford coroner to have the inquest reopened, were told that Hutton made a ruling in 2003 to keep medical reports and photographs closed for 70 years. Hutton responded by saying the documents could be revealed to doctors and that he had made the gagging order to spare Kelly's family "unnecessary distress".

Hopes for a new inquest have been raised by the change in government. Dominic Grieve, the attorney general, said in April, when he was shadow justice secretary, that the Tories would consider a new inquest into Kelly's death. He also called for a review of the government's decision not to release related medical records and postmortem documents.

Grieve is looking at the matter with the justice secretary, Kenneth Clarke. Norman Baker, the Liberal Democrat MP and a junior minister in the coalition government, supports resumption of the inquest. He resigned from the front bench while in opposition to write a book, The Strange Death of David Kelly, which argued that the scientist's life had been "deliberately taken by others".

The Hutton inquiry applied a less stringent test than would have been used in an inquest, where a coroner has to be sure "beyond reasonable doubt" that a person intended to kill themselves. Read more at www.guardian.co.uk

Much of the fluoride added to municipal water supplies across the United States is imported from China, and is contaminated with heavy metals, according to a warning by Bernard Miltenberger, president of the Pure Water Committee of Western Maryland. In a letter published in the Cumberland Times-News, Miltenberger notes that he first became aware of the issue in an engineering report for the city of Boulder, Colo. The report noted that the fluoridation chemicals used for the city's water had been evaluated, and were found to contain lead levels of 40 milligrams per bag and arsenic levels of 50 milligrams per bag. The bags were being imported from China under no regulatory monitoring of acid or salt content. Miltenberger then visited the Frostburg Water Filtration Plant in Maryland and noticed that the fluoride bags were not labeled with any importation information. He contacted the plant's chemical supplier, Univar USA, and was then referred to Sovay fluorides. Sovay informed him that the fluoride had been manufactured by Shanghai Minthchem Development in China. Heavy metal contamination is only the latest concern to emerge over the practice of water fluoridation, which has been controversial since its inception. Fluoride is a well-known toxic chemical, as Miltenberger notes: "The material safety data sheets from Solvay fluorides show that a teaspoon amount of five grams of sodium fluoride can be fatal to an average size man of 70kg. ... chronic toxicity by oral route may cause skeletal and dental fluorosis, thyroid, testes, kidney, liver, ambiguous carcinogenic and mutagenic effects, fetotoxic and fertility effects." Miltenberger also notes that fluoride toothpaste contains a warning that anyone who consumes more than a pea-size amount should contact a poison control center at once. 61 trucks loaded with 300 tons of explosives go missing in central India

NEW DELHI, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- Some 61 trucks loaded with over 300 tons of explosives have gone missing in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, a senior police official said Friday. "The trucks were sent from a state-owned factory, Rajasthan Explosives and Chemicals Limited, in Dholpur to a private company called Ganesh Explosives in the state's Sagar district. But it never reached there," the official said. A massive search is on to track down the trucks as fear is mounting that if the explosives, including detonators and gelatin sticks, reach the wrong hands it could be devastating, he added. Meanwhile, Rajasthan Explosives and Chemicals Limited has claimed that it can't be blamed for this disappearance as it sent explosives only in trucks authorized by the company. "We hand over the explosives to those who have the license. And they then dispatch it on their truck. Now, whatever happens to that explosive thereafter, we are not responsible for that," Y.C. More and more GMO are being found in the wild, after "escaping" form fields and labs. This as the article states was an inevitability. A University of Arkansas researcher has found genetically modified canola growing wild in Dakota -- in addition, she found two different GM varieties had interbred to produce a completely new GM canola. Dr. Cynthia Sagers, an ecologist with the University of Arkansas, presented her findings to the 9th Annual Meeting of the Ecological Society of America on Friday. Sagers said her findings showed there is a lack of "proper monitoring" and control of GM plants in the United States, reported Nature. Sagers said "The extent of the escape is unprecedented." NPR reported that all the varieties of GM canola that Sagers and her team found growing wild in Dakota were all modified to be resistant to Monsanto's herbicide Roundup, but at least two different GM varieties bred together to produce a third variety of GM with a new trait, prompting Sagers to say "What we've demonstrated in this study is a large-scale escape of a genetically modified crop in the United States." The paper, titled Evidence for the establishment and persistence of genetically modified canola populations in the U.S. The majority of the canola plants Sagers and her team collected while travelling 5,400 kilometers through Dakota were genetically modified. Her report concludes "... These observations indicate feral populations are reproducing and have become established outside of cultivation making this is the first report in the U.S. of established populations of genetically modified organisms in the "wild". As such, these observations have important implications for the ecology and management of native and weedy species, and as well as for the management of biotech products in the U.S." In a press release issued by the Ecological Society of America, Sagers was quoted as saying she had found "... two instances of multiple transgenes in single individuals." Monsanto downplayed the discovery, telling Nature "Those familiar with canola know that these plants are readily found on roadsides and in areas near farmers' fields. This was true prior to the introduction of GM canola, and a common source is seed that has scattered during harvest and fallen off a truck during transport." However, according to BBC, Sagers said her team collected canola samples from cemeteries, gas stations, ball parks, grocery stores and along roadsides. Sagers said her findings mean transgenic canola is capable of surviving in the wild, something some scientists say is not a major concern. NPR spoke with British researcher Mike Wilkinson, who said "I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. It's very difficult for either of these transgene types to give much of an advantage, if any, in the habitats that they're in." BBC reported that feral GM plants are expected. The plants that survive are called volunteers and they are known to reproduce. In spite of this fact, scientists think the only problem posed by the wild GM canola is weed control, because the wild canola will spread resistance to Roundup, a problem that has meant increased work and expenses for farmers. Environmental activists, however, are concerned about Dr. Sager's discovery. Reached via email on Friday, Eric Darier, Director of Greenpeace in Quebec, said "15 years ago, those who opposed the dissemination of GE crop in the environment had concerns about the contamination of ecosystems. This is now what is happening! As there is no thorough and independent impacts studies it is difficult to know the unintended consequences that this genetic contamination will have on ecosystems and biodiversity. By the time we found out it might be too late. This news is also a very bad news for farmers and farming as more and more weeds will become more and more tolerant to the Roundup herbicide. This will force farmers to use greater quantities of even more toxic herbicides or to abandon land to weeds as it is already the case in many states in the US." Monsanto has not denied the problem of "superweeds," acknowledging that herbicide-resistant weeds is a growing issue for farmers. In spite of this, the corporation still recommends use of its herbicide as a key component in controlling weeds in fields. "Superweeds" are created when GM plants interbreed with non GM plants of the same species, transferring genes and creating herbicide-resistant strains that subsequently become nuisances to farmers, choking out crops. Superweeds are also created when weeds survive applications of Roundup and then pass on the adaptive genes to offspring. GM canola is supposed to help farmers by increasing yields that require less inputs than non-GM canola. The Canola Council of Canada said GM canola is only modified to resist the herbicides applied to the fields, and oil made from the GM canola is identical to oil made from non-GM canola. GM canola is widely grown in western Canada, the USA and Australia. Organic producers are concerned about the contamination of their non-GM canoloa by GM canola. An Australian organization has created a map of where GM canola is grown in Western Australia to facilitate farmers who do not grow the GM crop.

Monsanto promoted HACCP. In 2008, Hillary Clinton, urged a powerful centralized food safety agency as part of her campaign for president. Her advisor was Mark Penn, CEO of Burson Marsteller*, a giant PR firm representing Monsanto. Clinton lost, but Clinton friends such as Rosa DeLauro, whose husband's firm lists Monsanto as a progressive client and globalization as an area of expertise, introduced early versions of S 510. S 510 fails on moral, social, economic, political, constitutional, and human survival grounds. 1. It puts all US food and all US farms under Homeland Security and the Department of Defense, in the event of contamination or an ill-defined emergency. It resembles the Kissinger Plan. 2. It would end US sovereignty over its own food supply by insisting on compliance with the WTO, thus threatening national security. It would end the Uruguay Round Agreement Act of 1994, which put US sovereignty and US law under perfect protection. Instead, S 510 says: COMPLIANCE WITH INTERNATIONAL AGREEMENTS. Nothing in this Act (or an amendment made by this Act) shall be construed in a manner inconsistent with the agreement establishing the World Trade Organization or any other treaty or international agreement to which the United States is a party. 3. It would allow the government, under Maritime Law, to define the introduction of any food into commerce (even direct sales between individuals) as smuggling into "the United States." Since under that law, the US is a corporate entity and not a location, "entry of food into the US" covers food produced anywhere within the land mass of this country and "entering into" it by virtue of being produced. 4. It imposes Codex Alimentarius on the US, a global system of control over food. It allows the United Nations (UN), World Health Organization (WHO), UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the WTO to take control of every food on earth and remove access to natural food supplements. Its bizarre history and its expected impact in limiting access to adequate nutrition (while mandating GM food, GM animals, pesticides, hormones, irradiation of food, etc.) threatens all safe and organic food and health itself, since the world knows now it needs vitamins to survive, not just to treat illnesses. 5. It would remove the right to clean, store and thus own seed in the US, putting control of seeds in the hands of Monsanto and other multinationals, threatening US security. Biodiversity in farm animals is being wiped out to substitute genetically engineered animals on which corporations hold patents. Animal diseases can be falsely declared. S 510 includes the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), despite its corrupt involvement in the H1N1 scandal, which is now said to have been concocted by the corporations. 7. It extends a failed and destructive HACCP to all food, thus threatening to do to all local food production and farming what HACCP did to meat production ­ put it in corporate hands and worsen food safety. 8. It deconstructs what is left of the American economy. It takes agriculture and food, which are the cornerstone of all economies, out of the hands of the citizenry, and puts them under the total control of multinational corporations influencing the UN, WHO, FAO and WTO, with HHS, and CDC, acting as agents, with Homeland Security as the enforcer. The chance to rebuild the economy based on farming, ranching, gardens, food production, natural health, and all the jobs, tools and connected occupations would be eliminated. 9. It would allow the government to mandate antibiotics, hormones, slaughterhouse waste, pesticides and GMOs. This would industrialize every farm in the US, eliminate local organic farming, greatly increase global warming from increased use of oil- based products and long-distance delivery of foods, and make food even more unsafe. It uses food crimes as the entry into police state power and control. The bill postpones defining all the regulations to be imposed; postpones defining crimes to be punished, postpones defining penalties to be applied. It removes fundamental constitutional protections from all citizens in the country, making them subject to a corporate tribunal with unlimited power and penalties, and without judicial review.
